A new year means new hair, but deciding on the right trend for the year ahead is easier said than done. Luckily, we might have some inspiration for you.

There were a lot of fun trends that we saw in the spring 2019 runways that are easy to incorporate into your daily look. We’re seeing simple looks that are far from boring. You can go bold and dramatic, and the ’80s trend is also not going anywhere soon. We saw bright accents and even slicked back polished buns. There’s really something for everyone in 2019.

Our hair stylist Janet Jackson shares four of her favourite trends below.

LOOK 1: GLOSSY/POLISHED HAIR

Looking for a style that’s more classic than dramatic? This half-slick look is your go to. Stars such as Amanda Seyfried and Gigi Hadid have rocked variations of the look in the past.

How-to

Apply styling cream or gel from the top of your scalp down to the ears, and then just let the rest of your hair flow naturally.

LOOK 2: FRINGE

Bangs are back! We’re going back to the ’70s with this up-and-coming (again) trend, keeping the fringe bold, heavy-looking, longer and stronger!

How-to

The key to making this style work is pairing it with a more modern cut, cutting and pasting only the seventies-inspired bangs and leaving the rest behind.

LOOK 3: ACCESSORIES

Hair accessories are in and they’re not just for convenience! Hair accessories have been a growing trend for some time now; we’ve been seeing models on runways and backstage rocking large colourful barrettes and sleek bows. This trend will add a bit of glitz, glam and spunk to your style.

How-to

Don’t be shy! Grab those clip-on bows and banana clips and go to town.

LOOK 4: Creative Colour

Want the look without the commitment? Get creative with colour by using clip-in extensions or wigs. It’s a super easy way to refresh your style on the reg without the commitment OR the damage! Win-win!
