French women don’t get fat, even though they have access to some of the world’s best cheese, bread and pastry. And wine! Oh, the wine they must drink. But there’s something new to add to the list of things French women don’t get, though, and that’s Kim Kardashian.

A French editorial makeup artist named Violette explained to The Cut that French women don’t contour, because “the main beauty philosophy in France is to accept who you are.”

Shade! But don’t worry, it gets better. Violette (she only has one name) says the word “contouring” as it relates to makeup, doesn’t even exist, because it “needs fixer, foundation, blush and highlighter,” which she says the French use very little of (if any at all).

As you might have come to know by now, Kim K is famous for her contouring, as are some of her sisters. But just because French women don’t do it, that doesn’t mean they don’t admire the process from afar. “We think that American beauty is very inspiring and very glamorous. We admire it, we just can’t seem to apply the same philosophy to ourselves for some reason,” she tells The Cut.

So, what are French women doing if they aren’t going for Kim Kardashian’s signature look? Well, Violette says that they “can only do 15 minutes of makeup every morning. The French girl is kind of lazy.” And that equates to focusing on one element, whether it’s a red lip or an eye that looks painted on with the fingers. No more, no less.

And there you have it, French women would love to try the “American way,” but they simply do not have the time for such trivialities.
