Oh dear. Why go with a good old-fashioned cake colour to reveal the gender of your baby, when you can have…lasagna?! Or so thought the folks at Villa Italian Kitchen, an American catering company with more than 250 restaurants worldwide, who have come up with the gift nobody asked for.

As per the modern trend of gender reveal parties, the gender of a baby is revealed through colour (pink or blue, of course) via balloon pop, smoke bomb, piñata, cake colour or another equally unnecessary showy display. Obviously, lasagna was the next logical step. Announcing the new addition to their menu, the franchise shared details of the “world’s first-ever” (for a reason) gender reveal lasagna, featuring “one cheese lasagna with a secret pink or blue interior, a tray of Villa Italian Kitchen’s famed garlic rolls and a choice of either a garden, Caesar or Greek salad”…all yours for only $187 ($139.99 USD). Say it with us now: yummm.

The Twitterverse was reliably confused, and brutally honest, in its verdict:

And is it just us, as well as being completely pointless and plain dumb, but is this also a little icky? Who wants to eat a blue or pink lasagna, anyhow? We’ll just stick to a classic sponge cake for now, thanks. In the meantime, we’ll just file this one under ‘eye-roll’.
