Ikea is known for affordable, yet stylish furniture (hands up if you owned/own a $50 Billy bookcase), and Sonos speakers are known for their high quality sound. So when we heard that our fave Swedish furniture store was teaming up with the leader in smart speakers to create the Symfonisk range, our ears perked up. The speakers come in the form of a bookshelf and table lamp, and you can bet they’ll look good on your nightstand (well, most nightstands anyway).
The bookshelf can be mounted on the wall (and hold up to 3kg of stuff), or tucked seamlessly into your own existing shelf, while the lamp, well, has a light. Talk about multi-purpose. As for sound, the bookshelf doesn’t perform as well as the lamp (which is comparable to the Sonos Play One) but it does sound better and richer than your standard Bluetooth speaker or smart home assistant. Both speakers also come with wireless controls, so you can play your fave jam, and dim and change the colour of your light (if you use a smart lightbulb) all from an app.
Bonus for anyone who owns a smart home device: voice control. Yep, you can use your voice to tell Google or Alexa to activate these babies through your Amazon Echo, Google Home or Sonos One. For anyone who thinks Big Brother is always listening (and have yet to succumb to a smart home system), these guys have no mics. It’s a win/win.
