The official end of George Clooney’s bachelorhood certainly caused a stir this past weekend, but it was nothing compared to how his new bride, human rights lawyer (and total babe) Amal Alamuddin, had us swooning over her chic and sophisticated style. For once the spotlight wasn’t on George’s dimpled chin but on his better half’s choice of pre-and-post wedding wear. Amal definitely proved she’s fit to be a member of Hollywood royalty with these three fab looks:
Look 1: Striped A-line Dress
Get the look: Feel the breeze in this bias cut maxi dress from Elan. No, it doesn’t come with the Sexiest Man of the Year, but pair it with strappy sandals (or barefoot on the beach) and oversized oval sunglasses, and you can tell people he’s off fetching you a Bellini.
Look 2: Floral appliqué dress
Amal never lets it all hang out but she’s definitely not afraid to show off her assets. The day after saying “I do” in Oscar de la Renta, she stepped out in a long-sleeved lacey Giambattista Valli dress that positively screamed “Gotcha!” (and check out my great gams).
Get the look: High-low hemlines are a great alternative to the mini. You get to highlight your legs while keeping a smidge of modesty. This floral appliqué party dress from Lipsy at ASOS has a sheer mesh panel that’s sexy but doesn’t show too much skin. Also, Amal is never without her oversized Jackie O’s and neither should you be. Wide lensed sunnies are the perfect antidote to a previous night full of champagne wishes and caviar dreams.
Look 3: White pantsuit with matching wide-brimmed hat
While George chose yet another variation of a grey suit, Amal attended the couple’s civil ceremony in a long and lean Stella McCartney pantsuit with navy detailing. And if that wasn’t enough to make us swoon, she paired it with a gold-buckled clutch and a Faye Dunaway-inspired wide-brimmed hat. She left the best for last, and she left us wanting more. A star is officially born.
Get the look: Wide-legged, high-waisted trousers can really lengthen your body but make sure to pair them with a slim-fitted or cropped shirt. Pantsuits are best kept simple, with minimal accessories, and wide-brimmed hats are fantastic for protecting against UV Rays, avoiding small talk (so sorry, I didn’t see you because of my big hat!) and softening angular features. But if you’re going to go head-to-toe white, we suggest staying away from tomato soup and toddlers.
