No matter what anyone thinks of those mini bangs, Beyoncé Knowles has had a kick-ass year of fashion “dos”. The vampy Givenchy gown (with veil!) she wore to the Met Gala was svelte and sophisticated, the custom bejeweled leotard she rocked at the MTV Video Music Awards was fierce and there’s even an upcoming collaboration with edgy Brit retailer Topshop. Our Queen B. isn’t afraid to take a few fashion risks. She’s a gal who can pull off mini-rompers, deep V-neck jumpsuits, sheer paneled gowns and thigh-high boots with equal aplomb. We love her style because she plays up her voluptuous curves and isn’t afraid to shake things up with unexpected patterns, textures and designs.
If you want to embrace your inner Sasha Fierce you need to think outside of the box, break a few “rules” and do it with sass. Don’t be afraid to mix prints from head-to-toe by keeping the colour tones consistent, wear silk printed pants with colourful kicks, show off your curves with a cinched belt, or try a crop top with a pencil skirt. Figure out what enhances your silhouette best and then own it.
We’ve pulled together a simple look that will help you emulate Mrs. Carter’s recent sexy, curvy look:
Get the Look: Beyoncé

What to buy:

A Floral Midi Skirt: Did anyone ever tell Beyoncé that midi skirts were just for ladies with sticks for legs? No, they did not because she knows that a hip-hugging pencil skirt paired with high strappy heels is enough to emphasize the sexy curve of a calf and make us feel dizzy with love. Choose one in a dense stretchy fabric and you’ll hide all kinds of sins (and be able to walk a block, not that the star ever has to).  Midi Floral Skirt, $46.95 (USD), available at the New York & Company Outlet at the Fashion Outlets of Niagara; Aldo Ibenama Sandals, $44.98, aldoshoes.com

A Silky Blouse: If you’re feeling brave and want to mix things up like Beyoncé, pair that floral print skirt with an edgier top like this silky black and white number from J.Crew. Do make sure to keep hair and makeup simple or you could risk a Nicki Minaj moment. If one pattern in an outfit is enough for you (and that’s totally fine, Beyoncé doesn’t judge), then go with a cream short-sleeved top with clean lines. But please don’t forget to tuck it in or you’ll lose that hour-glass look. J.Crew Silk Petal-Sleeve Top, $102 (USD), jcrew.com

A Neutral Lipstick: Bey has a fresh-faced natural glow and she knows it. This is a gal who never goes overboard with her makeup, playing up one feature at a time (eyes or lips). A mixed-patterned outfit like this one is best worn with a nude coloured lipstick that subtly makes your lips shine without being too distracting. Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick, $15.50 sephora.com

A Pair of Tortoise Shell Sunglasses: Blink and you’ll miss ‘em: You’ll never see Beyoncé in the same pair of sunglasses twice. Her collection of eyewear is substantial, and these chic cat eye pair are our favourites so far. A little bit retro with a whole lot of style, tortoise shell frames are the LBD of glasses – they’re fabulous for any occasion. Cat Eye Sunglasses, $25.64, ASOS.com
