If you’re looking for natural and glowing skin this summer, beauty expert Michelle Biodeau knows just what you need. Here are some of her favourite natural beauty product picks to achieve that perfect summer glow.
dry-brush.jpg
Dry brushing works to stimulate the lymphatic system, helping to rid the body of toxins, while it also stimulates blood flow to the surface of the skin. It helps to reduce dark circles, improve circulation and create an inner glow. Unlike dry brushes intended for your body, this brush is gentle enough for your face, but just as effective. The white oak handle is sustainably sourced, with goat hair bristles. The goats are sheared, similar to sheep, so there is no harm done to the animal. Use first thing, every morning.
face-glow-cream.jpg
This is an amazing multitasker that can be worn alone as a moisturizer, under makeup as a primer or even as a highlighter (alone, under or over foundation). It contains nano zinc oxide to help protect skin from UV rays and red raspberry oil to protect against free radical damage. It also contains Spirulina, a blue green algae that is dense with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, to help hydrate, while it reduces dark circles and spots. The finish is a subtle shimmer.
biossance-cream.jpg
This mist contains hyaluronic acid – everyone’s favourite plumping/hydrating ingredient. 100% plant-derived (from sugar cane) squalane is the brand’s star ingredient. Squalane is a mega-moisturizing molecule. Our bodies naturally produce squalene (note the spelling), but it depletes over times, so a spritz of this ultra-fine mist will help to replenish skin. Also contains geranium, lavender and rose for extra hydration and a lovely scent boost. Simply spray 2-3 pumps after you moisturize in the morning, or over makeup to set and throughout the day.
self-tanner.jpg
This is a 5-in-1 self tanner that not only gives your skin some colour, but it also hydrates, repairs, nourishes AND moisturizes at the same time, all while being non-greasy. Infused with goji, acai, mangosteen and more to help it smell delicious. It uses Vegatan, which is an eco-certified source of DHA from sugar beets. Although intended for face and body, creams are best suited for face because you can see where you’re putting it and can blend it in. Simply apply like a moisturizer, but make sure to blend with hands. After applying, just wash your hands with soap. Apply two to three times a week to maintain that healthy glow.
tan-water.jpg
This is an all-natural tanning line created by a gal from Ireland who was tired of those orangey tanners. This particular product just launched in March 2018. The fast-drying formula comes in three different shade options from light/medium to super dark and promises not to transfer to bed sheets or clothing. It works for both face and body, but mousses are great for body applications. It’s anti-aging and super hydrating and a little bonus – the brand patented an odour remove technology, so you don’t get that prominent self-tanner smell. Use a tanning mitt to apply on clean dry skin. It can be rinsed off 4 to 8 hours after you apply, but product will build gradually.
burts-bees-foundation.jpg
This full coverage mineral makeup is 99% natural and available in 12 shades. Made from responsibly sourced meadowfoam seed oil, so it has a slight bouncy texture, but sinks into the skin and is extra hydrating. Apply with fingers to start, and then use a dense foundation brush to blend out any streaks and along the hair line.
kosas-colour-and-blush.jpg
This is skincare-based makeup. A highlighter and bronzer that contains marula, rosehip and green tea extracts, among others, to help hydrate and soothe skin while it helps the complexion glow. Using your fingertips, you can apply along the bridge of your nose, along the underside of the cheekbones and around the jawline for definition. Then, go in with the highlighter on the Cupid ’s bow, the top of the cheekbones and the front of the chin.
bite-beauty-pearl-stick.jpg
These sticks are buildable, blendable and universally flattering on all skin tones. They can be worn as lipstick, eye shadow or blush, but can also work as a highlighter on the Cupid’s bow, cheekbones and inner corner of the eye for added shine. “Oyster Pearl” gives you a rich taupe shimmer – the perfect warm shade with hints of cool silver.
