Hippos are often seen as gentle giants, but they’ll freaking kill you if given the chance.
Even though they’re classified as herbivores, hippos still murder nearly 3,000 people every year, according to the African Wildlife Foundation. It’s like they don’t care if they’re only supposed to eat plants.
Now that you understand the danger involved, you can really appreciate the sheer terror the tourists in the video above must have been feeling when a massive hippo charged their boat.
Published on YouTube Sunday, the footage shows the animal chasing the boat at incredible speeds in Kasane, Botswana. When the hippo finally emerges from the water, the helmsman decides enough is enough and cranks the engine into full speed, as if avoiding a potentially imminent attack.
