Body shaming is awful. It’s hard when we do it to ourselves, it’s hard when strangers do it, but what happens when the ones we love most body shame us? One woman shared her story on Twitter about her own boyfriend body shaming her. Thankfully, the internet was not having it.
Twitter user @babyyygucci, a woman named Shelby, sought advice from Twitter after a terrible conversation with her boyfriend about how her appearance made him feel.
I am 120 pounds. I have been for about 5 months.
My partner said this to me. Am I overreacting for feeling hurt by this? I’m at a loss and just can’t even comprehend how someone who claims to love me can say this. pic.twitter.com/JpOrtkSZ4h— shelbs (@babyyygucci) March 30, 2018
The gross messages show that her boyfriend of only a few months was worried that her “gut might stick out more than [his]” and that she is “definitely getting a beer gut, babe.” Like the word ‘babe’ would make that sentence okay to say to someone.
The conversation screenshots have now gone viral and thousands of people have given her advice and shared their encouragment.

I can tell you exactly how much weight you need to lose as soon as your boyfriend steps on a scale.

After reading all the comments Shelby realized that she needed to end things and that she was thankful for the support.
I haven’t been able to see him since I posted this. With the help of my therapist today I have a plan to end things and move on. I will be seeing him tomorrow and dropping a hefty 180 pounds. The support I got is amazing. I really thought only my few twitter friends would reply!

She updated her following with the news the next day and has since said that even though breakups are hard she knows she’s better off without him.
I want to update you guys that we are broken up. He was really unhappy and felt like shit, especially after knowing my tweet went viral. He has told me he’ll use this as a learning experience to be a better person. And here I am, single and free 😇

Moral of the story is: don’t settle for someone who treats you terrible, especially when the internet is there to support you.
