As the summer rolls in with its sunshine, there are some things you need to worry about. Burning up is definitely one of those things, but so is frizzy, sad-looking hair. And sweat. And heat stroke. And sitting around wondering when the ice cream man is going to show up.

If you’re someone with curly hair, you face all of this summertime sadness. It sucks, we know, but we can help solve the hair troubles at least. And that’s because curls can be hydrated, so they’ll look healthy and stay protected. All it takes is a little L.O.C. Here’s what that means:

Step One: Liquid-Based Leave-In Conditioner

This part is important, because curly, natural hair is easiest to treat when it’s wet. There’s no right liquid-based leave-in condition, so just pick your favourite. Then tie off your hair into four sections, and then apply the conditioner.

Step Two: Oil

Oil helps with hair structure, which means it will help maintain a strong ‘do. Use coconut oil on the four sections immediately after you condition.

Step Three: Cream

Use a twisting cream to seal in all of the hard work you’ve done. It will lock in the moisture and oil. Once you’ve gotten it on all of your strands, twist portions of hair into long, tight curls. Leave to dry and then voila, a beautifully hydrated mop of hair that’s totally frizz-free.
