Bad news everyone. Those creepy little green creatures that terrified us back in the mid-80’s are preparing to make their return. But this time, they’re looking to scare the bejesus out of our kids!
Of course we all remember Gremlins. It was the 1984 Christmas horror-comedy classic that told the tale of a young kid who was gifted a pet gremlin from his dad. He breaks the strict rules that he’s instructed to keep while tending to the new “pet” and accidentally releases an infestation of mean little monsters that wreak terror on his neighbourhood.
The film spawned millions of dollars in merchandise, video games and a not-so-great sequel revolving around those slimy, little, property-damage-loving monsters. It was also the reason we lost a lot of sleep as kids, wondering if those ghoulish things were hiding under our beds. Now our kids will have the opportunity to experience the same dread.
The word around Hollywood is that Warner Bros. is fast-tracking a remake of the spooky flick that will bring the critters into a new generation. If the whispers are true, a writer, director and cast should be announced very shortly.
If the movie is a straight up remake, can you imagine how much more terrifying those little monsters will be with 30 years of special effects upgrades? Oh god. We have a feeling that our kids won’t be the only ones who are completely terrified. It’s bad enough that we have to relive the original every Christmas!
Why Warner Bros., why?
