On Wednesday night’s Grey’s Anatomy (Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on CTV) we saw the long-awaited reveal of the third Shepherd sister and learned exactly why Amelia never goes home. Her sisters are the worst. Her mother isn’t winning any parenting awards either. But just as importantly, we received confirmation of something that we’ve been suspecting all season; Link is officially the greatest guy. Ever. Like, RIP Derek Shepherd and everything, but he does not look like the sun in comparison to Link.

Link has been slowly revealing himself as more than just a doctor with a body that don’t quit, although he is that too. Since day one, he’s continually shown himself to also be a great person. When Jo tried to set Link up with Meredith and it quickly became apparent that she was more interested in DeLuca, Link still helped Meredith with Bailey’s birthday party. When Jo hit rock bottom, it was Link who helped Alex realize how bad things had become. Ironically, our confirmation that Link is, in a word, the best, came while he was pretending to be Owen, who has been pretending to be someone like Link for years. Link is the real deal.

Link was upgraded from Amelia’s blue light room personified to fake husband Owen when the pair travelled to New York to perform a surgery together and ran into Amelia’s sister Nancy, who assumed Link was Owen. We all know that NYC is small and quaint. You can’t go two feet without running into a sibling.

We first met Nancy in Season 2 when she arrived in Seattle to yell at Derek for leaving Addison. Shepherd Sister Two, aka Liz, aka Neve Campbell, appeared in Season 10, but sadly wasn’t in New York this week. Or, she was, but Amelia didn’t happen to run into her.

Nancy insisted that Amelia and Owen (Link) come over for dinner like normal siblings and Amelia agreed, with Link being the best (again) and agreeing to pretend to be Owen. The charade was going well, with Link impressing Nancy and Shepherd Sister Three Kathleen, played by Amy Acker, who made her Grey’s Anatomy debut this week. She’s our least favourite Shepherd sister so far. There’s still a fourth.

Quick to complain that she couldn’t drink in front of Amelia (addiction puts such a damper on a good wine pairing), Kathleen wasted no time revisiting all of Amelia’s past mistakes. But do we really care about the opinion of the woman who was surprised that Amelia wound up with the hottest husband? Really? Kathleen just finished saying that Amelia got drunk at funerals and didn’t take anything seriously. We’re not making light of addiction but come on. Drunk or sober, Amelia is fun. She should not be bothered by the opinion of women who don’t get how dating works, even if they are blood related.

Link and Amelia had successfully sold their marriage act, because who wouldn’t want to pretend to be married to Link, until Mama Shepherd showed up and remembered meeting Owen Hunt and him not having cheekbones that can cut glass. You don’t forget those cheekbones.

Made to feel once again like the family failure, Amelia and Link bolted, but not before Link gave a speech listing all of Amelia’s qualities. The. Best.

Thankfully, the reunion wasn’t a total bust. Amelia got some closure from her mother, who apologized for pulling away from Amelia after her father’s death, with Mama Shepherd admitting that she found Amelia difficult to be around because she reminded her of her dead husband. Not cool, but grief sucks. The second silver lining was that Amelia finally heard that she is worthy of love, which means she’s ready to make things serious with Link. And he forgave her for being a jerk because he’s the best. And she knows to lock this thing down because he’s the best.
