Bindi Irwin has been a revelation over the last three weeks of Dancing With the Stars. She seems unbeatable, unfazed and can literally handle anything that partner Derek Hough throws her way. But the constant dancing can take a toll on the body, even that of a 17-year-old, and something had to give. But, please. This is Bindi we’re talking about. Nothing could stop this little firecracker, not even a painful foot.
The couples danced to TV theme songs Monday night and Bindi and Derek had a huge production planned to go with The Jetsons. But a last-minute glitch had them overhauling everything and they had to change their routine to fit The Jeffersons. Pfft, no biggie. Despite having to learn a new dance in two days, Bindi remained calm, cool and awesome. And what’s more is girlfriend played off her injury like a champ, determined to get the routine down. And that’s why she’s a rock star — and a front-runner.
Her first dance was a jive to “Crocodile Rock” (could there be a more obvious song for the junior crocodile hunter and animal conservationist to dance to?) but she slayed us the week after by honouring her late father, Steve Irwin, with a tango — to AC/DC’s “You Shook Me,” one of his favourite songs. It was stellar.

This week, Bindi and Derek scored solid 8s, numbers Paula Deen and Gary Busey will probably never see during their respective runs, but that ain’t no thing. Team Crikey might not be at the top of the leaderboard this week (that title belongs to both Backstreet Boy Nick Carter and actress Alexa PenaVega, who earned nines from all the judges) but Bindi is tops with the fans, if the screams from the audience are any indication. And who can blame them?
Bindi is a force to be reckoned with, a bubbly ball of energy, always smiling, a joy to watch, so, so positive and all kinds of adorable. She’s got the support of her mom, Terri, and brother Bob, and this week her boyfriend, Chandler Powell, flew in to be by her side.
All of which reminds us that while Bindi is a strong, sassy young woman and beautiful role model, she’s still just a teenager who lives life to the fullest and doesn’t let anything get her down or stop her. This week’s little stumble isn’t going to stop her from getting back to where she was and she’ll be movin’ on up in no time. Bindi is not only the sentimental favourite but the crowd favourite as well. #TeamCrikey for the win!
