Want to own a red carpet dress worn by the one and only Gwyneth Paltrow? Thanks to a fundraising endeavour launched by Leonardo DiCaprio, you can for the right price, all going towards a good cause. The All-In challenge has celebs offering up memorabilia, clothing, or a special in-person experience to online bidders, with the proceeds going to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and charities that provide food assistance for those in need. Oscar winner Paltrow is the latest celebs to accept the challenge, donating a dress she wore to the Academy Awards in 2000. Though Paltrow said the shimmery Calvin Klein gown still occupies a sentimental place in her heart it's easy to see why it may have been easy for her to let it go.For the record, Paltrow has already been candid about her some of her least favourite Academy Awards red carpet looks, citing the black and silver “goth Alexander McQueen” gown she wore to the 2002 ceremony as a sartorial low moment ("I should have worn a bra and I should have just had simple, beachy hair and less makeup") and another frock, worn down the red carpet two years prior, as another fashion miss, which Paltrow admitted back in 2013. “The Calvin Klein,” she said at the time (as reported by Huffington Post—the corresponding Goop entry seems to have disappeared). “It's an okay dress but not Oscars material. I chose it because I wanted to disappear that year.”[video_embed id='1939833']RELATED: Goop’s Mother’s Day gift guide is wild[/video_embed]Not surprisingly it’s that very same Calvin Klein dress, with its hand-beading, its awkward hem length and its disappearing powers, that Paltrow is offering up for auction in the All-In charity challenge, calling it "very end-of-the-'90s" and because fashion is cyclical, "a good one to donate."
Gwyneth’s social media followers were quick to point out her previously disclosed disdain for the gown (a true fan never forgets a Goop post), connecting the dots between her lack of love for the CK dress and her choice of donated clothing. That said, the real draw here (for those willing to part with a big chunk of change) is that the dress comes with a face-to-face meeting with the star. Paltrow has invited the auction winner to meet with her for a beverage ("cup of tea or a glass wine") and an official gown hand-off. And so really, what Gwyn is offering here is a date. The dress is merely a souvenir from "that time you had a drink with Gwyneth Paltrow."As is the custom with this challenge, the participating celeb tags a handful of other stars to join in and do their part. Justin Bieber has offered to fly to a winner’s hometown to serenade them, while DiCaprio is offering a walk-on part in his next film and Paltrow nominated pals Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lake Bell to do their part to ease financial strain during the pandemic by offering up something special for auction.Whether those ladies decide to give up a previously-worn red-carpet item remains to be seen.[video_embed id='1941625']BEFORE YOU GO: Ryan & Blake promote ‘boring’ shirt for COVID-19 relief[/video_embed]
