After settling into their new home in Santa Barbara, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to her native Los Angeles for a charity drive-by event where they handed out back-to-school essentials to students ahead of the new school year.Sporting face masks and gloves, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex handed out school supplies, books, backpacks, clothing, food, hygiene items and more in conjunction with the non-profit organization Baby2Baby. The org encouraged families to drive up to the event in their cars to receive the donations where some got a surprise meet-and-greet with the royal couple. Meghan and Harry even got down to help outfit a boy with his new gear, with the Duchess kneeling as she strapped him into his new backpack, and Harry bending over to inspect the measurements.
“Baby2Baby was proud to host a drive-through distribution at Knox Elementary in South LA as students across the country return to distance learning this week,” read the caption to Baby2Baby’s Instagram post, along with official photographs from the event. “Thank you to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex for joining our team to help us distribute school supplies... to children who need these basic essentials more than ever during this unprecedented back to school season.”The post garnered several comments from celeb A-listers like Busy Phillips and Jenna Dewan who left a series of heart emojis in the comment section.[video_embed id='2012490']RELATED: ‘Finding Freedom’ reveals hidden details about Harry and Meghan's life together [/video_embed]The L.A.-based charity has a number of celebrity supporters, including board members Julie Bowen, Jessica Alba, Nicole Richie and Rachel Zoe as well as Giving Tree Award recipients Kate Hudson and Drew Barrymore. In fact, last year when they were still expecting little baby Archie, the Duke and Duchess used their official Instagram account to encourage donations to Baby2Baby in lieu of baby gifts. The move not only came as a surprise to the organization co-founders, but also to board member and Hollywood actress Jessica Alba who thanked the Sussexes with a dedicated IG outpouring.Recent act of kindness comes on the heels of the Royals getting their hands dirty with Homeboy Industries—an organization that provides job training and education to formerly-incarcerated and previously gang-involved people —back in June. The Duke and Duchess prepared meals for the food-insecure. Earlier this week, Harry and Meghan made a remote appearance from their home to discuss using social media for good and stamping out online harassment and bullying with the youth of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.[video_embed id='2018107']BEFORE YOU GO: Where are a masked-up Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin headed?
