This is how royals entertain children

Buckingham Palace looked a lot different on Saturday. There was a tea party for some very special guests held on the grounds, but it was no ordinary tea party. Rather, Prince William, Duchess Kate and Prince Harry welcomed 850 kids to the palace to take part in festivities honouring, well, them — the children of those who died serving in the Armed Forces.

“Their Royal Highnesses have arranged the event as a way to acknowledge and honour the fact that a number of young children have had to come to terms with the loss of someone very close to them at a young age,” read a statement from the royals’ office at Kensington Palace. “The Duke and Duchess and Prince Harry hope the event will provide an opportunity for these children to broaden their support networks amongst other families with similar experiences.”

While it was a way to get the children all together, finding support and making friends with those who know exactly what they’re going through, it was also a day of fun. There was a concert and ventriloquist, beatboxing and breakdancing workshops, face painting and cupcake decorating. The afternoon was capped off by an aerial show by the RAF Falcons, who showed off their tricks overhead before landing in the garden and around the palace.

During the party, Harry told the guests, “Today was organized to celebrate you guys. We’re here to remind you that we as a family, and as a nation will never, ever forget the sacrifices that all of you here have made. We wanted to give you an opportunity to know that you are part of, sadly, a very large group of fantastic people. The three of us, and all of our family, wanted to thank you so, so much for everything you’ve done. I can assure you that Buckingham Palace gardens have not seen this much fun, ever.”

Based on the fun everyone was having, Harry, Will and Kate need to throw parties more often.

Melissa McCarthy joins Saturday Night Live‘s five-timers club

These past few months, we’ve been treated to Melissa McCarthy on SNL a number of times, thanks to her brilliant take on White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. But this past Saturday, she also hosted, making it her fifth glorious time.

5️⃣🎉

She treated us to more spazzy Spicey, of course …

But it was the cold open of the show that really nailed what’s been going on this past week, even though it didn’t feature McCarthy at all. Instead, Alec Baldwin was back as President Trump, and given what’s been going on leading up to the show, the writers’ re-creation of the Lester Holt (played by Michael Che) interview was perfect. And clever. And hilarious. But mostly sad.

Nicki Minaj is now launching a charity to help fans with student loans

It was just last weekend that Nicki Minaj made a whole bunch of straight-A students’ days when she helped them pay off loans, and provided them with money for school supplies and tuition. Minaj said she would do “another impromptu payment spree” in a month or two, but she’s decided to do a little more.

The rapper announced she is launching a charity for student loans and tuition payments, because she’s awesome like that.

Honestly, it doesn’t get any better than this.

Taylor Swift made a fan’s graduation that much more special

Taylor couldn’t be there in person — she is a busy woman after all — but she didn’t let the occasion go unrecognized.

Sending a card that read, in part, “I’m so proud of you, your hard work and dedication, your excitement and ambition. I’m very lucky that a girl like you cares about me. Sending you my love and hugs (and to your family!). Love, Taylor” Swift showed, once again, how much she loves her fans, and just why they love her back.

Jim Parsons is a married man

Sorry, boys, but Jim Parsons is officially off the market. The Big Bang Theory star and his longtime partner, graphic designer Todd Spiewak got hitched on Saturday. Congratulations to the handsome couple of 14 years! And here’s to many, many more.
