Disgraced movie mogul and former Hollywood hotshot Harvey Weinstein finally had his day in court, and it didn’t go as he probably planned. As one of the OG reasons this entire #MeToo movement started, Time was Up on Weinstein’s reported actions against women on February 24 when he was convicted on two of the five charges against him. But when a judge ordered him to go directly to jail while he awaited sentencing on March 11, he was rerouted to the hospital instead.Weinstein was on his way to the infirmary unit at New York's Rikers Island jail when he began complaining of chest pains and heart palpitations, and he was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan instead. The facility is traditionally known as a psychiatric unit, but it also stands in as a hospital for the jail’s inmates. His lawyer later revealed that the 67-year-old was suffering from high blood pressure. That’s no small wonder, considering Weinstein was found guilty of a criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree following his New York trial. (He was cleared of the other three charges, including rape in the first degree and the two more serious charges of predatory sexual assault.) It took the jury more than 26 hours to deliberate his fate. “While he was not convicted on the most serious charges, we are disappointed in the verdict and will be filing an appeal. There are issues in this trial that were extremely troubling, and they prejudiced Mr. Weinstein’s ability to have his case fairly judged,” Weinstein’s lawyers told People in a statement.“In the meantime, we are working on assuring that Mr. Weinstein is brought to Rikers Island’s North infirmary unit (NIU) at the Anna M Kross center complex or in protective custody so that he can get the best medical supervision and care possible.”[video_embed id='1907690']RELATED: Weinstein's attorney says they plan to appeal[/video_embed]Although Weinstein had been out on a $2 million bail, Justice James Burke ordered him to be held in custody. His lawyer argued that the guy should be allowed to remain out because he recently had unsuccessful back surgery and needs shots to keep from going blind. As anyone who has been following the trial probably already noticed, Weinstein has been seen using his walker a lot lately.Whether it’s a bid for sympathy or the guy really is suffering from health problems (stress is said to cause of lot of health-related issues, you know) Weinstein is still headed to jail once he gets the all-clear from doctors. Then on March 11 during his sentencing hearing, he faces five to 29 years in prison. “Today, a jury confirmed what we all know: Harvey Weinstein committed sexual assault,” Tarana Burke, the woman who created the #MeToo hashtag, said in a statement. “This jury worked with an incredibly narrow and unjust set of laws governing sexual assault, and though he was not convicted on all counts, Harvey Weinstein will have to answer for his crimes.”[video_embed id='1891878']RELATED: New film sparks conversation about the #MeToo movement[/video_embed]
