We know what you’re thinking: “a backless hat is completely ridiculous; I would never wear one.” But, wait! Hear us out. We surfed the same wave of emotions you’re currently on, and the more we learned about the new accessory, the more we found ourselves actually digging it.

Lids that let us wear high ponytails aren’t exactly new. Deryck Todd gave us a shiny black leather backless cap in 2014. But what makes the Spony so unique and dare we say, cool, is that it’s a two-in-one topper.

You can wear the cap as a regular old baseball hat, perfect for hairstyles like loose locks, pigtails or braids. But when you feel like rocking a top knot or any kind of updo, and don’t want to compromise your sun protection or style, the back of the Spony has two flaps that you peel apart and fold into pockets that are tucked discreetly inside of the hat. Pretty brilliant, right?

Here’s the official Spony video, which shows off the accessory’s versatility.

The hats, which are $25 USD and made in the States, come in a handful of hues, including a blush pink, neutrals like white and black, both a light and dark blue, as well as a camo print.

Some women are even getting their sweat on in their Spony. We have to agree that it’s kind of perfect for a workout at the gym or a run outdoors.

Is this the next great hat design for women (or, yes, dudes with long hair who sport a man bun) or just a silly fad that we’ll look back on and laugh about? We’re not sure just yet, but, either way, it’s not going to stop us from wearing one this summer.
