When we think of romantic foods the first thing to come to mind isn’t usually beans on toast. Chocolate strawberries, sure. Oysters, why not? But thanks to an ad from the Heinz Corporation, we now have a whole new appreciation for comfort food. Maybe The Bachelor should start serving beans on toast during their fantasy dates.
The new commercial from the Australian division of the Heinz Corporation is giving us major Pixar vibes, with many fans of 2009’s UP likely spotting some similarities. Thankfully, the ad doesn’t have us crying in the first few minutes.
In Heinz’s new ad titled Geoff The Film, which reportedly took one year to create for the launch of the ‘Can Size for Every Aussie’ product line, a young man named Geoff spends his childhood eating, loving, and dreaming about beans. As the opening line states,“Young Geoff had a curious and unshakable love for beans.”
Showing a wall full of childhood photos of Geoff eating Heinz beans, he eventually takes his resume to the Heinz Corporation and lands his dream job as Head of Innovation.
To celebrate his new position, Geoff heads home to prepare his favorite meal of beans on toast. Geoff quickly finds that one can of beans is too big to fit on a single piece of bread, inspiring Geoff to invent the Can For One. After much trial and error, including a few cans of exploding beans, Geoff has created the perfect proportion for one person.
But just when he’s ready to enjoy solo meals, Geoff spots a coworker from the Spaghetti Division and falls in love. Geoff heads back to his lab and creates a Can for Two, a hit with his crush, who quickly becomes his wife.
The new couple soon find out they’re expecting two beans of their own and welcome twins into their growing home.
But with new family members comes new bean-dilemmas, with Geoff inspired to create a snack size can of beans for his messy teenagers. Finally completing his line of canned sizes for all occasions, Geoff and his family sit down to enjoy their favorite snack, with the closing line of narration “So in a curious twist, by inventing something for everyone, Geoff found he had it all.”
Nevermind, we were wrong. This ad does make us cry as much as UP.
