At this point, there’s literally nothing Helen Mirren could do that would surprise us. If you told us she was working with NASA to be the first human to set foot on Mars or that she casually discovered a new element in her spare time between films, we would probably just think, ‘oh look, Helen Mirren’s at it again.’ She is so fabulous in so many ways that it’s honestly exhausting to keep up with her life. There’s always something new. The woman is 70-YEARS-OLD and we’re pretty sure she has to be moving at a pace faster than the average 20-year-old. Does Helen Mirren have any limits?

No. The answer is no. We’re pretty sure she wakes up every morning and asks herself what the last thing everyone would expect her to do is, and then she does it.

Yesterday that thing was: get cast in the next Fast and Furious movie; because who would ever expect Dame Helen Mirren to be in the same movie as The Rock and Vin Diesel? No one, that’s who. And yet, it’s happening.

She told Elle that she agreed to be in the film on the condition that she got to do her own driving because she’s ‘always rather loved driving.’ Of course Dame Helen Mirren wants to do her own stunt driving in Fast 8. Honestly, we’re betting that she’s a better driver than all the core cast combined.

This movie is quickly turning from just another installment in an overdone franchise into something we’ll actually want to see. In addition to Mirren, Fast 8 has also cast Charlize Theron and Scott Eastwood as new characters alongside the large returning cast of Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jason Statham, etc. With all the star power in this movie, it’s got to be at least decent. Honestly though, we’d watch a mediocre movie in its entirety for even a few minutes of The Dame Helen Mirren.
