Canadian coins have been the same since we were little: One side, as always, is Queen Elizabeth II, and the other is either our beloved beaver, the Bluenose, a caribou, a loon or a polar bear. (R.I.P. the maple leaf on the now-defunct penny.) It’s always a treat when we receive change and get our hands on a “different” coin with an original design, one made specially by the Royal Canadian Mint.

In 2017, for Canada’s 150th anniversary, the Mint is going to go coin crazy. All of our country’s change will feature new designs, created and chosen by Canadians. Until October 9, you can vote as often as you like for your favourite coin design in each of the five categories: Our Passions, Our Wonders, Our Achievements, Our Character, and Our Future. One winner from each grouping will appear on the nickel, dime, quarter, loonie or toonie.

The more you vote and share your choices with your family and friends on Facebook and Twitter, the more you increase the chances of seeing your favourite designs on the 2017 coins. The Mint will reveal which design will go on each denomination in 2017 — for now, that’s a secret. But won’t it be sweet to get change when you buy your morning coffee and see the design you chose?

Here are the 25 candidates for the coins:
