The Late Late Show‘s “Carpool Karaoke” segment was so wildly popular that it made perfect sense to launch it as a spinoff series. Well, ask and you shall receive. James Corden has just unveiled the premiere episode and if you were hoping for an A-list superstar, who started his career rapping, you got it. Because there’s no one quite like Will Smith to kick things off.
Carpool Karaoke: The Series is now available on Apple Music, but the first six minutes of the fast and fun ride-along is here as James and Will get right into it with “Gettin Jiggy Wit It” before taking on “Boom! Shake the Room.”
During their downtime, Smith talked about playing former President Barack Obama in a movie (“He told me he felt confident that I had the ears to play the role.”). He also revealed that having a hit record (“Girls Ain’t Nothin’ But Trouble”) on the radio at the age of 16, with a month left before the school year ended, was kind of crazy.
There’s also a marching band and helicopter involved, but you’ll have to see it all to believe it.
But it’s not just James and his famous passengers in the spinoff. The online show will bring some other delightful celebrity pairings together and put them behind the wheel as they buckle up and belt it out like we all tend to do in a car. Look out for future episodes featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba and will.i.am; Ariana Grande and Seth MacFarlane; Game of Thrones stars Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner; LeBron James, John Cena, Shaq and more.
Next week’s episodes, which premiere on Aug. 15, will feature Alicia Keys and John Legend, (with an appearance by Taraji P. Henson), as well as Billy Eichner and Metallica. Honk if you love this.
