Although he’s just starting to figure out how exactly he’s going to play a big screen superhero, Benedict Cumberbatch decided to throw on his super-duds and give us an early glimpse of what he will likely look like playing the lead in Marvel’s upcoming flick, Dr. Strange.
Although the film just began shooting principal photography last month, a now scruffy, grey-haired Benny decided to don his Dr. Strange costume for one of the very first times, and pose for the new cover of EW.
According to Cumberbatch, the look and role of the self-centred surgeon turned super sorcerer is so new to him that he used the photoshoot as a way to feel out the character and practice for the big screen. “I’m still in the infancy of learning all that,” says Benny. “It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”
