Everyone knows that heading to a midway is all about the food. Between the deep-fried concoctions, specialty items you wouldn’t regularly eat and artery-clogging goodies that are just screaming your name, midways have some of the most creative foods around.

So it’s only fitting that one of Canada’s most recognizable events, the Calgary Stampede, should offer up a variety of impressive foods too. According to organizers, this year’s event features roughly 50 new types of food, from chicken feet smothered in honey mustard and ketchup, to deep-fried jello and chilli-infused lemonade. With plenty of burgers, corn dogs, pretzels and Tiny Tom’s donuts in between, naturally.

In honour of stomachs everywhere, here are some of the weirdest and most rad finds featured this year.

Cereal Monster Sandwiches

Forget regular old ice cream sandwiches, this one has a “monster” sized portion of ice cream in-between two ginormous cereal-coated marshmallow squares.

Have you ever dunked fries in your clam chowder? You’re missing out. This dish is a hot and crispy serving of fries served with a thick and generous white clam chowder sauce on top. Cheese curds included.

Funnel Cake Poutine

Forget sweet funnel cakes, this one is smothered in rich gravy and topped with cheese curds for a poutine-inspired snack or meal.

World’s Hottest Pizza

If you’re the type to get jalepenos and hot peppers on your ‘za, this one is for you. The Caroline reaper peppers promise to have you running for a glass of water. Taste this one at your own risk.

Rabbit Pizza

Mmm, what’s up, Doc? This milder pizza features a flatbread crust that’s topped with slow-roasted rabbit and organic dark honey.

Long Sausage

Forget foot-longs, these metre-long sausages are way more Canadian. Topped with bell peppers, onions and a homemade sauce, you may want to share this one with a special someone.

Deep Fried Jell-O

Battered Jell-O is fried up and dusted with some powdered sugar for a unique snack or dessert.

Canadian Bacon Pickle Balls

Just when you thought deep-fried pickles couldn’t get any better, these guys wrapped hot dogs and pickles in bacon, battered them, deep-fried them and served them on a stick.

Crispy Chicken Feet on a Stick

These are exactly what they sound like: deep-fried chicken feet served up on a stick. A delicacy to some, a pass to others, and definitely the talk of the midway this year.

Papri Cone

This waffle cone is stuffed to the brim with delicious carbs like corn chips, potatoes and chickpeas, then it’s served with a generous helping of yogurt and tamarind sauce.

Unicorn White Hot Chocolate

Building on a major foodie trend, this dish features a huge serving of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, tons of candy and sprinkles for a “unicorn” effect.

Chilli Chill Chill

Need a refreshing but spicy drink? Opt for this chilli-infused lemonade that’s freshly squeezed with just a hint of lime.
