If you missed out on all those Canada Day deals and you’re itching to do some summer shopping, you’re in luck. Amazon Prime Day, the e-commerce giant’s best sale of the year, is just around the corner. We know there’s nothing worse than missing out on a discounted product you can’t live without, so we’re here to prep you for the big day.
First thing to know: it’s technically a day and a half. The sale kicks off at 3 p.m. ET on July 16, and doesn’t wrap for 36 hours, on July 17 at midnight. Next super important thing is (you guessed it) you need to be a Prime member to partake. So if you’re not already signed up, do that now, and you’ll get that 30-day free trial before the $79 annual fee kicks in.
While Amazon is pretty tight-lipped about what exactly will be on sale, you can expect up to 50 per cent off on thousands of must-haves. Some pre-Prime Day sales are already in place, too, including 25 per cent off on AmazonBasics items like pet accessories, small appliances and bedding. If you’re on the hunt for new gadgets, you can score deals on Amazon’s house-made products, including the Kindle, Amazon Echo and audio books from Audible. Look for deals on products from brands like Bose, Ray-Ban and Under Armour, too.
If you need a little shopping inspo, check out what sold big last year around the world. In the U.S., it was 23AndMe DNA tests. In Mexico, it was the Nintendo Switch. Here at home, the Instant Pot Pressure Cooker (which was invented in Ottawa, FYI) was the biggest seller, priced at $99, and it’ll be on sale this year, too.
The biggest change this year? Since Amazon acquired Whole Foods in 2017, Prime day 2018 is serving up savings on groceries, too. When you shop online and spend $35 or more on their 365 Everyday Value products, you’ll save 30 per cent. Spend $50 or more in-store between July 11 and 17, and you’ll get $10 off your purchases.
Now that you’ve made your shopping list, there are a bunch of ways to stay on top of the deals when July 16 arrives. Create your own Deals You’re Watching page to track all the sales you want to take advantage of, and download the Amazon App to stay updated on-the-go. And if you want to make sure you’re getting the best prices on the stuff you’re buying, double check those deals on sale-tracking sites like CamelCamelCamel and Offers.com.
So set your alarm for 3 p.m. on July 16, and get ready to shop and save.
