The show must go on and Live! With Kelly and Michael has proven over the last week that that is very much the case. Kelly Ripa returned nearly a week after the drama of what began with Michael Strahan announcing he was leaving Live! for Good Morning America. But the next question, “Who will fill Mike’s giant shoes?” needs to be answered quicker than expected because Strahan’s final Live! day was bumped from September to May 13.

That’s just over two weeks. Yikes.

So where does that leave Kelly? With an empty chair by her side to remind her of what has happened? No way! Just like when the hosts would go on vacation, they will happily speed-dial one of the many stars who fit seamlessly into the guest host role.

A source told People that “they’ll rotate a bunch of people in” and because of all the drama that has unfolded, expect to see familliar faces. So, who’s currently in the running?

Anderson Cooper

Seems like a shoo-in, right? In fact, he’s our personal favourite. But the problem is Ripa’s pal is going to be a tad busy in the coming year covering the election so now simply isn’t a good time.

Andy Cohen

Ripa’s other pick also makes sense with the exception of one hiccup: the Watch What Happens Live host is under contract with Bravo and considering what he does for the network, of which he used to be head of development, not to mention his gigs as exec producer of The Real Housewives franchise and radio host, he’s a little busy. No human can host a late-night show AND a morning show. Can he?

Seth Meyers

Or can Seth? Perhaps. Andy might have a chance since his show ends before Seth’s even begins. Yeah, yeah, Late Night with Seth Meyers tapes ahead of time but still. It’s a big ask. Meyers was in the running when Regis Philbin retired but now that he’s got Late Night, it’s less of a possibility … but it could happen.

Josh Groban

The singer, who also vyed for Regis’ seat but was beat out by Strahan, has guest-hosted numerous times and the rapport between Kelly and Josh is pretty effortless. They share similar senses of humour, so much so that you have to really be paying attention, otherwise you might miss the banter. Hmm, did someone just become the front-runner?

The source adds that they’ll keep searching for a successor, no matter how long it takes.

“Who knows how long it will take though,” says the source. “They’re prepared to keep cycling people through even if its not resolved by the fall.”

Hey, it took the network nine months to decide on Strahan so prepare to sit back, relax and enjoy the guest-hosting ride.
