Earlier this month when we found out that Bill Murray was going to be in the new all-female Ghostbusters flick, we were overjoyed. But we were also pretty confused. Murray had previously made it sound like being part of a new Ghostbusters movie was literally the last thing he’d ever want to do.

In a recent interview, Murray revealed why he finally had a change of heart about appearing in the new spectre-zapping film that stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

“I thought about it for a very long time. Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really … It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part].”

The legend seems to have no regrets about his cameo and also made it sound like he had a blast taking part in the flick.

“You know, they were incredibly nice to ask me, and I really enjoyed being there. They have such a jolly group, and they are going to have great success with this project. I didn’t want to overshadow [them] or anything, and I feel really good about it.”

We’re just glad to see you on board, Mr. Murray!
