If you’ve ever fancied visiting Buckingham Palace, why not take it a step further and think about living there. Truly, the opportunity is within your grasp; you just have to work for your accommodations. A job has opened up that includes benefits, pension and 33 holiday days — and a place to live. Really, you’d be crazy to pass this up.
Buckingham Palace, arguably one of the most famous residences in the world, is seeking a live-in housekeeper. The role of Housekeeping Assistant was advertised on The Royal Household website and its description is like no other:
“It’s being encouraged to gain new skills. And it’s delivering extraordinary service in incredible surroundings. This is what makes working for the Royal Household exceptional.
This is no standard housekeeping role. You’ll work, and live, in stunning historic settings, ensuring that they’re presented to their best for colleagues, guests and, of course, the Royal Family.
Aiming for the highest standards, you’ll clean and care for interiors and items from carpets and furniture to historic vases and irreplaceable paintings.
You’ll take care of guests and support special events too. And, in an environment where development and training is commonplace, you’ll be able to grow your skills far beyond your immediate role.”
Full time, any five days a week, the Housekeeping Assistant reports to the Master of the Household (how cool is that job title?). The package also includes a 15% employer contribution pension scheme, and benefits. The salary starts at £16,755 per annum, which works out to be nearly $29,000, but because accommodations are provided, the salary would be adjusted (since you’ll be living in a palace we can only guess that means you end up paying them). Still, not too shabby considering meals are provided and you’d get over a month of vacation days.
The job posting will be up until Sept. 9, so really, what have you got to lose? Sure, you might have to be like a real-life Mrs. Hughes or Mary Poppins but, hey, no harm putting your name in, right?
