Rafael Mantesso got a 30th birthday gift that he wasn’t expecting: His wife left him, took everything and essentially abandoned him in an apartment with white walls. Well, we shouldn’t say she took everything; Mantesso was left with one possession, his bull terrier Jimmy Choo (named, of course, after his former wife’s favourite shoes).

With nothing left except his dog and the blank white apartment, Mantesso found inspiration when Jimmy plopped down in front of one of its walls.

“Suddenly, I felt his long-dormant inspiration — for drawing, for art, for life — returning.”

“Suddenly, I felt his long-dormant inspiration — for drawing, for art, for life — returning. I created a series of fun, tongue-in-cheek illustrations, portraying my bull terrier dreaming of shoes, relaxing on a sofa with a martini by his side or turning canine DJ on the decks.” And doodle he did. In fact, Mantesso drew so many pictures of his pup that he plans to release his first book, titled A Dog Named Jimmy, in October 2015.
