You might feel like you’re being bombarded with Caitlyn Jenner news. And it’s true, there has been a lot of it. But know that this is a good thing – no, not that we’re giving the Kardashian-Jenner family more attention, but that the trans movement is getting our attention. That, however we get it, is a good thing.
So, the upcoming campaign from & Other Stories, H&M’s sister brand, is really quite refreshing. Not only are the models – Valentijn de Hingh and Hari Nef – trans, but so is everyone else involved. That means the photographer (Amos Mac), stylist (Love Bailey) and makeup artist (Nina Poon) are also trans. And that’s pretty darn cool, and not too shabby coming from a mainstream fashion brand.
“Sometimes to get a political message across, having a commercial brand support an issue can actually help,” De Hingh told WWD. “The thing that you have to be worried about is that it’s not just a fad. It’s not a fashion trend to have transgender people in a youth campaign, then after two seasons not have them anymore.”
