Like many Canadian tales, this one involves beer, hockey and a Tim Hortons.
Last Thursday around 4 a.m., Buffalo Sabres centre Ryan O’Reilly allegedly had a little too much to drink and attempted to drive his green pickup truck back home. Not surprisingly, the hockey player ended up crashing…right into a Tim Hortons.
Police say O’Reilly didn’t even stop in for a quick double-double before he drove off and later abandoned his vehicle. When officers eventually caught up with him, they charged the athlete with impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
We guess it’s possible he was just out to celebrate that night, as O’Reilly had signed a $52.5 million, seven-year contract with the Sabres only about a week earlier. That would certainly have left him with plenty of beer money!
Either way, he’s due in court on Aug 20.
