Celebrities are enraged over the shooting of Jacob Blake, and they’re taking to social media to make their voices heard. On August 23, lawyer and civil rights activist Ben Crump took to Twitter and posted a video of the 29-year-old Black Kenosha, Wisconsin man trying to get into his car when two white police officers grabbed his shirt and fired shots. It’s unclear from the video if one or both officers fired, but Blake was unarmed. He is now in the hospital and in critical condition. According to CNN, both officers have been placed on leave.[video_embed id='2020797']RELATED: Black man shot and wounded by Wisconsin police[/video_embed]The network reports that police were called to a residential area around 5:11 p.m. because of a domestic incident. Crump, who represents the family of George Floyd and has since been retained by the Blake family as well, explained that Blake was trying to break up a fight between two women. The lawyer also confirmed that Blake’s three sons were in the car when he was shot. The video, which has been seen countless times now, sparked protests that resulted in local officials instituting a curfew that lasted until 7 a.m. on August 24. Over that period of time, celebs with sizable platforms have been expressing their anger online, demanding justice and sharing their heartbreak over the fact that police-involved shootings of BIPOC keep happening.“Wow this is SICKENING ! I can’t believe it ! What’s going to be the excuse now ? They just don’t give a f--k nomore,” Cardi B wrote on Instagram while sharing the video with her followers. “SOMETHING MUST HAPPEN !Yooo this is insane they really not giving a f--k anymore.Lord please!”“No way what the f--k kinda law enforcement is this?,” added rapper 50 Cent on Twitter while sharing the video with his own followers. “Shot this man 7 times in his back, in front of his kids.” At time of press, neither of the two officers involved in the shooting had been identified. According to CNN, the Wisconsin Department of Justice has launched an investigation into the incident, and is aiming to submit a report to prosecutors within 30 days. “DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports to a prosecutor following a complete and thorough investigation," read a statement about the incident.Crump has made it clear that he and the family are continuing the fight for justice, and that they are demanding answers from police. “We all watched the horrific video of Jacob Blake being shot in the back several times by Kenosha police. Even worse, his three sons witnessed their father collapse after being riddled with bullets. Their irresponsible, reckless, and inhumane actions nearly cost the life of a man who was simply trying to do the right thing by intervening in a domestic incident. It’s a miracle that he’s still alive,” Crump said in a statement.“We will seek justice for Jacob Blake and for his family as we demand answers from the Kenosha Police Department. How many more of these tragic “while Black” tragedies will it take until the racial profiling and undervaluing of Black lives by the police finally stops?”[video_embed id='1974548']BEFORE YOU GO: A Toronto police officer explains where diverted police funding could be spent[/video_embed]
