The significance of Harris' nomination was touched on by many celebrities, including Mindy Kaling, Kerry Washington, Debra Messing, Lance Bass and Jessica Biel. You can’t know who @KamalaHarris is without knowing who our mother was. Missing her terribly, but know she and the ancestors are smiling today. #BidenHarris2020 pic.twitter.com/nmWVj90pkA

(1/2) Was there ever more of an exciting day? For our entire country of course, but especially for my Black and Indian sisters, many of us who have gone our entire lives thinking that someone who looks like us may never hold high office? Harris’ nomination also means that comedy fans are about to see a lot more of Maya Rudolph. The SNL alum was recently nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her appearance on Saturday Night Live as Harris. Rudolph was participating in a virtual roundtable with her fellow Emmy nominees when news of Harris’ nomination broke, prompting the comedian to respond, “Oh s***.” Rudolph is about to be very busy and we are very excited.Speaking to IndieWire later in the day, Rudolph shared her admiration for Harris.“It feels hopeful, as a human living in the United States. It’s terribly exciting to feel like someone so incredibly worthy of the nomination has it, and someone who I admire and respect,” she said. “It makes me feel energized to follow the campaign. As a person who for so many years played different people, it’s such a joy to get to be part of the race.”
Harris’ fellow Democratic party members, including former President Obama, former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren all shared their congratulatory messages following the news.Biden had a lot of amazing choices for VP. I’m really excited about @KamalaHarris. Also that means more @MayaRudolph so it’s really a two for one deal. pic.twitter.com/yy9zN4Iolq

I’ve known Senator @KamalaHarris for a long time. She is more than prepared for the job. She’s spent her career defending our Constitution and fighting for folks who need a fair shake. This is a good day for our country. Now let’s go win this thing. pic.twitter.com/duJhFhWp6g

I'm thrilled to welcome @KamalaHarris to a historic Democratic ticket. She's already proven herself to be an incredible public servant and leader. And I know she’ll be a strong partner to @JoeBiden. Please join me in having her back and getting her elected. pic.twitter.com/cmtOO8Gqqv

Congratulations to @KamalaHarris, who will make history as our next Vice President. She understands what it takes to stand up for working people, fight for health care for all, and take down the most corrupt administration in history. Let’s get to work and win.

Unfortunately, less than 24 hours after Harris' nomination, the racist and sexist attacks against the politician have already begun. Former Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett has teamed up with Planned Parenthood, Emily’s List, Times Up and the National Women’s Law Center ahead of Biden’s announcement to create the #WeHaveHerBack campaign, which includes sending letters to major media outlets urging them to publish fair and just coverage of Harris and other female politicians.I'm thrilled to welcome @KamalaHarris to a historic Democratic ticket. @ValerieJarrett to journalists everywhere:
