With today’s availability of beauty balms, highlighters, bronzers and contour palettes, we’re all coveting and striving for dewy, flawless skin. To the point that we can sometimes forget what a struggle acne — especially awful cystic acne — can be. After all, how often are we actually posting selfies of our pimpled pores and rash-ridden skin tones?
Well one brave teen wasn’t afraid to showcase her own struggle with cystic acne, nor her simple cure for it. And the results we’ve seen so far are certainly incredible, not to mention inspiring.
Seventeen-year-old Hilda Paz Robles started severely breaking out in April of last year, and like most of us who have suffered from acne, she was willing to do anything to make it go away. So when her aunt told her about the magical concoction of honey and green tea, she was willing to try it out.
Five months later and it’s amazing how much of the acne was gone. Robles shared the transformative before and after pics on Twitter, and naturally the post has been going viral ever since.

Incredible, is it not? Who knew that we didn’t necessarily need fancy schmancy sheet masks and expensive acne products to achieve these kinds of results?
According to the teen, she used a mix of pure green tea and pure honey, drinking the items together three times a week. She also applied the green tea leaves and honey to her face as a scrub three times a week, ensuring that the healing powers of these kitchen staples were working their magic both inside and out.
“A lot of people don’t believe me,” Robles told Allure. “I’m not saying it’s going to work for everybody because I tried so many different things before that, and nothing was working.”
This is definitely a home remedy we can get behind. Not only do most people tend to have both of these items already in their cupboards, but they’re also both known for having anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties — so there’s actual scientific data backing up the results.
“Trust the process,” Robles wrote in her post, reminding us all that acne won’t just magically go away overnight, but if you find a great skincare routine and stick with it, good things can happen. So what else is a part of this teen’s regimen? Bioré Pore Penetrating Charcoal Bar and Pond’s Nourishing Moisturizing Cream, items that are widely available at most stores.
Still, it’s the honey and green tea that Robles chalks up to better skin, and she promises to soon share a video tutorial explaining how she uses them to her full advantage.
