The new season of Love Island (Monday-Sunday, 9pm on CTV) has officially begun and viewers get to see what it’s like for a group of single strangers who are beautiful, and don’t have to work from home and stare at the same walls day in and day out, live and love in isolation. Yes; this is the escapism we've been waiting for.Things look a little different this season, with the island replaced by a hotel in Las Vegas, but you know what they say about Sin City—what happens in Vegas gets a hilarious voice-over from narrator Matthew Hoffman. Hostess with the mostess Arielle Vandenberg is also back to strut her way through the hotel and announce recoupling ceremonies, sending Islanders into a frenzy and making viewers wonder how they can score her outfits. Slay all day, Arielle. On that note, we’re still calling the contestants Islanders because Hotelers is awkward and we would like at least ONE THING TO STAY THE SAME IN 2020.The first 11 Islanders made their debuts on Monday night and things got hot and heavy and a touch awkward almost immediately. It’s important to remember that these people, like the rest of the world, have been in isolation for months and are a bit rusty at their dating game. What's a handshake, again?[video_embed id='2021779']Here's what you missed on Night 1 of 'Love Island' Season 2[/video_embed]

THE LADIES OF LOVE ISLAND

Never have a group of Islanders been so excited for physical contact, hence the hugfest that took place with the introduction of each new female Islander. There’s Cely, who wants someone who will love Cely as much as Cely loves Cely. Then there’s Moira, a 28-year-old self-described cougar who wants someone young who is good at conversation. (One or the other, Moira.) Justine revealed that she’s a go-go dancer on the weekends, which is a great job that pays well. It’s also a job that her parents don’t know about. Quarantine is making everyone too honest. We also met Kaitlynn, who loves to mudboggan and wear makeup and has been single for seven years, so she can handle quarantine. Mackenzie dates guys who happen to be millionaires, but she really just wants a guy who likes pizza and watching TV. Needle in a haystack, right?

The ladies of #LoveIsland ready to couple up!

THE GENTLEMEN OF LOVE ISLAND

Jeremiah is from a small town and tired of the tiny dating pool. We have some bad news to break to Jeremiah about Love Island then. James loves ink but will never get a tattoo of a woman’s name. Maybe the glasses are helping, but James appears to be the brains this season. Trey is a trainer (not this trainer Trey) and says he’s grown out of his player ways. Connor is nervous talking to girls and is looking forward to being on Love Island, where he doesn’t have to try hard to get phone numbers. He's come to the right show! Carrington is an alpha who rates himself as a 20 out 10. That’s not how rating works, Carrington. Lastly there’s Johnny, who respects women. That’s it. We don’t have a joke, we’re just genuinely excited about Johnny.[video_embed id='2021094']RELATED: 'Love Island' host Arielle Vandenberg is nervous to meet this season's 'beautiful' islanders[/video_embed]

THE COUPLING CEREMONY

The coupling ceremony got off to a very quiet, rocky start. Even though Justine stepped forward for Jeremiah, he picked Cely. No one picked James, so he coupled himself up with Moira. Going three for three, no one picked Trey, so he coupled himself up with Cely, pushing Jeremiah to the substitute bench. Connor got the second step forward of the coupling ceremony and accepted Mackenzie’s invite to be her partner because she has pretty hair. Right. Carrington and Kaitlynn matched and that left Justine with the very awkward reality of being with Jeremiah, who had already rejected her in his first two minutes on Love Island. Someone give Justine a socially distanced hug. After all the couples had been announced, Love Island threw a pool noodle into the situation care of feminist Johnny and his muscles.

THE BE-TREY-AL

Love Island didn’t make us wait long to see the first betrayal of the second season. Or should we call it, the first be-trey-al. Trey, who was coupled with Cely, kissed Kaitlynn and said he would keep things 100 with Cely and had bro code with Johnny but did not keep it 100 or deliver the code of the bro. Trey’s tea got spilled and his withholding of information cost him his couple status with Cely, who happily accepted when Johnny aka Mr. Steal Your Girl did, in fact, commit robbery.

THINGS WE HAD TO WAIT AN HOUR TO SEE

The season premiere may have been double-sized, but viewers still had to wait an entire hour before seeing some quintessential moments we’ve come to expect from the reality show. Such as:
  • The arrival of the official Love Island water bottles. What was everyone drinking for the first half of the day? It’s Las Vegas in August!
  • The first kiss. Thank you, James and of course Moira, who is definitely planning on using the custom wine glasses at the couple’s wedding.
  • A sexual innuendo from an Islander. Cely loves Sac. You know, Sacramento! Right. She also can’t believe that Johnny is from Virginia. Who is from Virginia?! According to Google, 8.5 million people, including Johnny.
  • A very un-COVID game of Suck and Blow. We were totally buggin'.
  • The first text, which went to new Islander Johnny. And by new, we mean he arrived five minutes after everyone was already in a couple. Count it!
Monday’s premiere ended with extremely nervous alpha male Carrington and friendzone Jeremiah getting invites to join two new Islanders in the hot tub. Let’s hope Mackenzie is free, because Justine is going to need some girl time faster than you can ask, Are Johnny and Cely sleeping on the same sheets that Trey and Cely slept in or do they change them every night?Watch new episodes of Love Island Monday-Sunday, 9pET on CTV.[video_embed id='2021080']BEFORE YOU GO: ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ reveals Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah[/video_embed]
