You know those pesky stock apps that are constantly cluttering up your iPhone? You know the ones; stuff like Stocks, Compass and iBooks that you’ve never, ever used. Well, we have some good news for you: with the release of iOS 10, you’ll finally be able to delete them once and for all. Hallelujah!
Don’t worry, you can re-add the apps if you ever need them (but we don’t think you’ll be doing that). And if that’s not enough for you to rejoice (why wouldn’t it be?) there are plenty of other cool features that are coming with the new download.
Don’t let that one pesky friend know you’ve read their message.
With the new iOS you can turn off read receipts…for one person! So, basically, you can pretend you didn’t get that message. Perfect!
You can shout or whisper!
Well you can’t actually shout… unless you’re making a real phone call. But, with the update, you can change the font size of your message to reflect what you’re saying. So you can basically whisper in a text.
You can send stickers!
We all know one of the best parts of Facebook messenger is that you can send stickers to your friends. Well, Apple got the hint and have added their own stickers to messaging, including adorable Disney themed stickers! For iMessages only, but it’ll be worth it.
You can ‘like’ a message.
Okay, so this is basically Facebook (again), but you can react to the messages you’re sent by tapping on them. You can give it a thumbs up, a ‘ha ha,’ any one of six options, to respond without really responding. This means the days of the ‘k’ text back can officially end!
You can send balloons.
If you type things like “Happy Birthday” or “Congratulations” balloons and other animations will take over your friends’ screen! They may not be real balloons, but the sentiment is the same. Your boring ‘happy birthday’ text won’t be so lame anymore.
It basically has built-in Snapchat.
Okay, so it’s not actually Snapchat, but you can send pictures that won’t appear until you swipe on the photo! They’re calling it ‘invisible ink,’ but it sounds like Snapchat’s little brother. Plus, you can draw on your photos and videos (hmmm, something you can also do on Snapchat).
You can type emojis.
It sounds strange, but it’s cool! You have the option to change words to their corresponding emojis after writing a message. Say you type, “want to grab a coffee?” Just tap the word ‘coffee’ and you can change it to the coffee emoji. Much easier than searching through your most used emojis list.
Removing apps, new features and animations? iOS 10 sounds too good to be true! The iOS 10 beta is out in July, but there won’t be a widespread update until the fall. With these updates, we may consider getting the beta version!
So, this new update seems to be the greatest thing Apple’s done since, well, since releasing the iPhone.
