Technology has changed the way students learn, so it may be time to trade in those textbooks for a digital approach to learning. Education strategist, Dwayne Matthews joined Your Morning to chat about digital trends that are taking students from traditional learning to a more personalized online education. What is personalized learning?

Personalized learning is about the system conforming to the student, as opposed to traditional learning which is the other way around. It helps students develop personal interests as well as fill in the gaps in knowledge that often go unaddressed in the traditional system.

Go-to online learning platforms

Online learning platforms enable students to tailor their education to their specific interests over a wide variety of subjects.
  • Edwin: Created by the textbook company Nelson. The platform features all of Nelson’s textbooks from grade 6 to grade 12, allowing students to learn at their own pace. Navigating all the content is made convenient with use of a search engine.
  • Apple Education: Available on all Apple devices. Apple Education connects users to Today at Apple, a service offering creative classes including photography, app development, and coding at Apple locations.

Personalized learning tools

Smart speakers and other voice activated devices can be used to help with spelling and basic math.
