With the extent of the damage done by Hurricane Dorian to the Bahamas becoming clearer by the day, one Barrie, Ontario resident has decided to step up and help out. For Nassau-born Chris Ashton, who calls the country his second home, watching the catastrophic devastation left in the wake of the storm has been difficult to say the least. Entire communities were flattened, roads washed out, and hospitals swamped by several feet of water – all of this was a clear call to Ashton to take action and help out.
Ashton plans to meet with his fundraising team in Niagara Falls before crossing the border with supplies and driving down to Florida next week. From there, he’s arranged for containers to be ferried over to Freeport. He will be accepting donations until Sunday, and has also started a GoFundMe Campaign that, as of Thursday September 5, has reached more than $31,000 dollars of the $40,000 goal. The money will be put toward supplies for the victims.
