Ever spill things on your favourite shirt, pants, dress, jacket or insert-item-of-clothing-here? Like most, you’ve probably encountered a stain or two that’s left you muttering a few expletives and wishing you hadn’t reached for that last slider.

Lucky for you, we’ve got the remedies for the worst (and most common) stains, and you likely already have the ingredients in your pantry. From coffee and oil and red wine to ketchup and mustard, we’ve covered the gamut when it comes to food stain woes. Read on — and watch the video — for the stain busting solutions that’ll leave your favourite clothes looking day one fresh.

WHAT YOU NEED (combination of…)

  • bowl of water
  • dish soap
  • vinegar
  • hydrogen peroxide
  • toothbrush
  • baking soda

WHAT YOU DO

Coffee

  1. Grab a bowl of water, mix in dish soap and add vinegar.
  2. Soak the stain for 15 minutes.
  3. Grab some hydrogen peroxide and dab it on the stain.
  4. Wash and dry as usual.

Oil

  1. Sprinkle stain with baking soda.
  2. Pour on dish soap.
  3. Dab a toothbrush in vinegar and gently scrub the stain.
  4. Wash and dry as usual.

Red wine

  1. Fill a bowl with hydrogen peroxide.
  2. Squeeze in dish soap.
  3. Pour onto stain and let sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Wash and dry as usual.

Ketchup & mustard

  1. Carefully remove excess ketchup and mustard.
  2. Add baking soda to a bowl.
  3. Add vinegar to the bowl.
  4. Pour in hydrogen peroxide to create a foam.
  5. Place foam on stain and rub.
  6. Wash and dry as usual.
