Plastic, we all use it. Plastic toothbrushes, plastic water bottles, plastic knives and forks, plastic watering cans…Plastic. Plastic. Plastic. We use it so much, it’s surprising that we humans aren’t partially made up of it. Of course, people end up discarding most of it. And, of course, a lot of plastic garbage isn’t recycled and ends up in landfills and oceans.
Yeah, it’s disgusting and it’s horrible for our environment. Thankfully there’s a project that’s trying to get everyday people to recycle in a new and innovative way. It’s called the Precious Plastic project and it wants you to roll up your sleeves and create your very own little plastic recycling workshop to turn plastic garbage into things you actually need. Check out their video below:
It seems like a daunting task at first and maybe you’re thinking, “Um, I’ve never built anything in my life before,” but hear us out. The Precious Plastic team says they’ve been using basic tools and materials to develop machines to recycle waste locally. They’re even providing all the blueprints for free so that everyone–including you!–can build their own versions of the machines. How cool is that?
So far they’ve recycled plastic into bowls, tables, blocks, chic hats and even spinning tops. Honestly the possibilities are endless. And hey, if you really don’t think you could build this yourself, you can bring your whole community together with it project. Hurrah teamwork!
