If browsing Taylor Swift’s Instagram didn’t already make you green with #envy, this weekend’s posts should have you coveting a more brilliant hue. The pop superstar’s usual blonde locks are now a stunning shade of platinum—to match her many record-breaking records.

Tay Tay debuted the look on the cover of Vogue‘s May issue, but one never knows if photoshoots reflect real life or just wigs and stylist tricks. So, fans went wild when Swift shared a photo of herself on Friday captioned “BLEACHELLA ⚡️”.

BLEACHELLA ⚡️

The photo garnered 1.6 million likes (her Vogue cover post got 1.1m) and 24,800 comments. Music fans at this weekends ultra trendy desert music festival Coachella got to see the look in real life, with Swift sharing photos of herself and her #squad, mostly relaxing poolside (we’re guessing that only VIPs and other A-listers actually got to see the look in real life).

I feel like maybe chokers are the new flower crowns?

Loving the look? Don’t rush out and buy a box of bleach! Here are our tips for looking as fresh as Taylor.

Going Platinum:

It’s not advisable to DIY platinum blonde. Getting your hair light enough and just the right tone could take multiple dye sessions and many, many hours—especially if you’re currently a brunette. So seek the advice of a professional.

Get A Cut:

Before you hit the salon, be prepared that you may need to lose some length. For instance, if your hair is below your shoulders, your stylist may suggest that you cut it into a long bob or Swift’s choppy ‘do, as your ends may not be so happy about all that processing and will either break or just look dry and well, awful.

Harsh Truths:

Be prepared to be told that platinum may not be an option for you. If your hair is damaged or dyed often, bleaching it beyond blonde may mean breakage, and while Tay’s hair is enviable, you don’t want to lose your hair over it!

Consider Complexion:

Talk to your stylist about the best blonde colour for your skin tone. Swift’s pure platinum works well with most skin tones, but it’s definitely an extreme look. For something a little less shocking, porcelain and olive skin tones can try an icy or ashy blonde and a creamy blonde looks great on medium to darker complexions.
