La Roche-Posay is the brand trusted by many as an authority for sensitive skin. Naturally they’d be the ones to develop an anti-aging serum for all skin types (including sensitive) that’s not only gentle, but gets stuff done. Hyalu B5 Serum contains not one, but two types of hyaluronic acid, and both work to plump and repair skin.
The high molecular weight hyaluronic acid works as a surface barrier — it holds the moisture on the skin to re-plump fine lines and wrinkles. The low molecular weight hyalyuronic acid penetrates deeper into the epidermis, which La Roche says will stimulate cellular renovation. It also contains vitamin B, meant to promote natural repair of the skin barrier and madecassoside which can help to stimulate collagen synthesis. Madecassoside (try and say that ten times fast) also has a ‘Best’ rating in Paula’s Choice ingredient directory (a.k.a. the Beauty Bible for many a beauty addict), which is a good sign in our books.
But if you’re anything like us, a pseudo-science lesson isn’t going to be enough to make you believe that this will finally be the Peter Pan of serums, taking you to the Never Never Land of skin. So, how does it perform? Quite beautifully. Though the formula is a little sticky (we prefer using it at night), waking up to glowing, plumped and visibly refined skin is worth the slight tackiness. It’s lightweight, smells real nice and at $49, it’s reasonably priced compared to its luxury counterparts.
Those of you expecting Botox in a Bottle, it’s not quite that miraculous, but as far as effective anti-aging serums go, this one is worth the add-to-cart.
