Unless you like to stand out, wearing black is just the go-to. It’s slimming, and if you spill anything on it, it’s harder to see. It’s also timeless and, hey, so what if Morticia Addams might be your spirit animal? Sure, sure, the funeral jokes come fast and furiously but we’re confident in the fact that black never goes out of style.
That’s right, confident. According to a study, those who wear all or mostly black appear to be more attractive, intelligent, and confident, the Independent reports.
The study surveyed over 1,000 people to find which colors they most associated with certain qualities and black came out either first or second in every positive category. Furthermore, black wasn’t thought of in terms of negative qualities such as arrogance.
This goes for both men and women: 66 per cent of women believed black was the most attractive colour on a man, while 46 per cent of men preferred black on women.
As far as confidence goes, red came in second. However, people also linked red to arrogance, while a mere 12 per cent associated it with intelligence. The colours least tied with intelligence are yellow, orange, and in last place, pink. (Poor pink!)
Researchers of the survey, which was conducted by British retailer buytshirtsonline.co.uk, would show participants almost identical photos of a member of the opposite sex where the only thing different was his or her shirt colour.
Based on the findings, it seems the daily struggles of trying to figure out what to wear just got a whole lot easier. Next time you have a big presentation or a job interview, wear black if you want to be taken seriously. Science says so.
