I have a friend (now happily married) who said that putting together an Ikea shelf with her then-boyfriend was the beginning of the end of their relationship.
Obviously, whether it ends in tears or high fives, the couple who can live through a major assembly project will stay together but this anecdote rings true for so many. Illustrated, step-by-step instructions that require tools aren’t for the faint of heart, but generally speaking, well-designed, affordable furniture is. So what do you do if you want a handsome-looking cabinet but have no idea how to use an Allen key?
Well, you’re in luck. Ikea has just introduced its Regissör collection, which features a new patented technique for quick assembly. Furniture pieces have wedge dowels, pre-drilled holes and many pieces simply click together. Although you will need a screwdriver (you can’t expect these pieces to stand just on their own, can you?), the instructions do seem simpler and less confusing. No hammers thrown, no hair torn out!
The collection includes six pieces with a mid-century modern feel: a coffee table, cabinet, bookshelf and three glass-door cabinets of different sizes with a varying number of shelves and drawers. It’s a sleek, simple collection that would look good in just about any room in any home.
Introducing the Ikea furniture you can build in 5 minutes (yes, really)
