When you’re having eating a meal with friends or family, there’s nothing more rude or annoying than when someone keeps checking their phone. It’s insulting on so many levels. You’re literally right there in front of them, so why aren’t they talking to you? And why are they sharing their witty bon mots with the Internet and not you? Just stop, right?

The folks at Ikea have come through for us yet again; now you can save yourself an awkward conversation by using its “Logged Out” placemats from the upcoming Sittning collection — complete with a sleeve for your smartphone. It’s not getting rid of a phone at the table entirely, but it’s a good step. Basically, the pocket creates a barrier between your guest and their phone, making it even more apparent when your friend is being rude. So not only are you creating a physical barrier, you’re also creating an emotional one, too. Which is great, because it’s high time we took a break from our screens and just enjoyed a meal.

Just think, hanging out could start to look something like this:

The entire Sittning collection is set to debut in September 2015 (although we could totally use these for our next barbecue).
