Bless the celebs and semi-celebs who are showing up to give us, their adoring public, something we can actually use during these dark times. We’re not saying we don’t like your cutesy viral videos and we definitely appreciate the donations you’ve made to various organizations trying to help people who’ve been affected by this new self-isolating COVID life. But that age-old proverb from Maimonides holds true in terms of the help that Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten is doling out: ‘Give a person a cocktail and you soothe them for a day; teach a person to make a cocktail and you satiate them for a lifetime.’Wise words that have held true for centuries.Garten popped up on Instagram Live yesterday looking like the culinary goddess she is and wielding a bottle of Grey Goose vodka (in quarantine, we deserve only the best). She also had some Cointreau, a selection of juices, and what appeared to be an industrial-sized cocktail shaker. With the kind of calm demeanour that abandoned most of us a solid week ago, she proceeded to mix up a batch of the cocktail made famous by the women of Sex and The City — the classy and classic Cosmopolitan.[video_embed id='5440040986001']RELATED: Ina Garten says she’s had the same thing for breakfast for 10 years[/video_embed]The recipe she shares (available on the Barefoot Contessa site) does not call for “a shot of this” or a “jigger of that” — we’re living in a time where alcohol is now measured by the cup (there are three in total in Ina’s mix). "During these stressful times,” says the chef, “it's really important to keep traditions alive." And cocktail hour is one of our most beloved. The biggest lesson to take away from Ina’s tutorial? Right now, cocktail hour can be almost ANY hour.See how Ina marks hers below.
