If you’ve been paying attention to your television sets these past few weeks, you may have noticed an ad for a new series called Quantico. And if you’re especially eagle-eyed, you’ve probably noticed that — despite this actually being an ensemble series — all of those ads revolve around the same face: Priyanka Chopra.
Fans of Bollywood films already know why. Internationally, Priyanka is pretty much the biggest star on the other side of the planet. She can barely go to a film festival without hordes of people coming out to see her.
For those who aren’t familiar with her, we guarantee you’re going to fall in love. We recently spent some time on the Montreal set with the star, and were immediately impressed. Here’s what you need to know about her and the show ahead of Sunday’s premiere.
She has 11 million Twitter followers
— Priyanka Chopra FC (@PcOurHeartbeat) September 22, 2015
Actually, make that 11.1 million followers. And she engages with her fans nearly every day. She even brought up one reporter’s tweet that mentioned her while we were on set. In the most charming way possible, of course. It’s no wonder this show is likely to break Twitter on Sunday night.
Which also means she’s got some hardcore fans
We tweeted out a picture of a limited-edition poster Chopra had signed for us on the set, which immediately set off a flurry of requests from folks wondering where they could purchase one. If you’re one of those potential buyers, know that we’ve been told the proper people have been notified of the demand, and one might be coming out soon.
Priyanka is a former Miss India… and Miss World
And it was all completely by accident. “My mom sent in pictures without me even knowing,” she tells us. “I had no idea.” So imagine her surprise when, at 17 years old, she won the entire thing, and then went on to win Miss World?
This inevitably led to some roles in a few Bollywood films
Before that she was an engineering student
She was the self-described “black sheep” in her family for a while for giving up the books. But she didn’t know of any other kind of existence; she was “a good Indian girl,” who did what was expected of her. Once she realized acting was her calling, her family got on board.
On Quantico, she plays the top student again
“The FBI’s top recruit is now their most wanted,” reads the poster. It’s all a tease about her character, Alex, who’s training for the FBI in Quantico but suddenly becomes the top suspect following a terrorist attack.
This guy happens to play her love interest
According to her co-stars, she’s the Beyonce of India
“I would love to go to India with Priyanka and see what it’s like to walk to streets with Beyonce,” co-star Josh Hopkins says. We’re still jealous he got to soak in all of that wine with Courteney Cox on Cougar Town, ourselves.
According to us, she’s one of the most down-to-earth people we’ve ever met
Well, as down-to-earth as someone in her position possibly could be. Sure, she was followed around by an assistant and had lots of makeup touches and that kind of stuff going on while we were on the set. She also made sure to know each of the reporter’s names, moved her chair closer to us so that she could actually have a conversation with us, and offered us tea, coffee, or any other beverage we’d like.
Which all guarantees that Quantico is pretty much gonna be a win
Bring on Sunday night!
