This weekend, while the world was still reeling from President Donald Trump’s order to halt travellers from Muslim-majority countries, Ivanka Trump was having a grand old time. In fact, she posted this captionless photo of her and her husband Jared Kushner in (some) of their finest attire to her Twitter and Instagram accounts.
In the photo, Kushner and Ivanka are posing, he in a tuxedo and she in a floor-length silver gown, looking every bit as glamorous as the day of her daddy’s inauguration, despite the chaos unravelling at airports around the globe.
The Internet, the self proclaimed pointer outer of all that is unjust and insensitive, wasted no time in reacting to the ill-timed post. Because, yeah, we can see how this one would be seen as a touch offside, Ivanka.

Ivanka’s metallic silver gown is by renowned designer Carolina Herrera and reportedly worth $5,000 USD. Many are drawing the comparison between the Trump heiress and the French monarch Marie Antoinette, who infamously and callously proclaimed to “let them eat cake” when she heard the peasants of her land were starving and could not afford bread, thus displaying her ignorance to the issue.
Thousands of families are being ripped apart because of your father but that’s a cute dress. Have fun at your party! https://t.co/yzuakVrEcy

Sigh. So far your legacy doesn’t look so great, Ivanka, even if you think your wardrobe does.
