Break out those yellow ball gowns because this is probably the best news ever. Emma Watson is officially going to play Belle in the upcoming live-action Disney movie Beauty and the Beast and our little hearts could be more Lumière’d with excitement. Why’s that, you ask? Because we always knew that the former Harry Potter star was destined for great things. And let’s face it: she’s going to make the best Belle of the ball.
How do we know this? Well:
Belle loves books, it is known
Um, hello! Emma Watson sold us on Hermione Granger, the biggest book worm character that ever existed. That girl even knew how to soothe a magical, tooth-baring book that was trying to attack wizards in class. We think we can buy her here, as a gal who’d rather spend time with her nose up in a book than with the hot guy from town.
Our Belle needs a little bit of sass
But it has to be sweet sass, and we know that Watson can bring it. After all, she’s held her own on the late night circuit over the years.
Belle needs to be able to interact with a Beast
This sounds like a no-brainer, but sometimes actresses don’t want to work with animals (or dudes with more makeup than they have on). Luckily, Watson has already PLAYED a beast.
Belle needs to have a touch of bossiness that runs through her blood
Otherwise, how could she ever stand up for herself to a bad-breathed monster?
Check, check and check. Again, please see Harry Potter reference.
Belle stands up for the rights of others
As does Watson. In real life. As demonstrated in this amazing speech.
Belle has the dance moves
Everyone loves that memorable scene in the animated film, which will of COURSE have to be incorporated into the movie. So the question is, can Watson dance? You tell us …
Belle cleans up nice
OK, so we might have been a little too into the Harry Potter franchise, but it’s hard to argue with this.
But most importantly of all…
Even though Belle sometimes doubts herself, we never do
And that’s exactly how we feel about Ms. Watson.
