If you’re planning to catch A Star Is Born this weekend, something other than Bradley Cooper’s baby blues might stand out to you — his co-star, Lady Gaga, doesn’t wear any makeup.

While going makeup-free isn’t something to write home about these days, for someone like Lady Gaga who is rarely seen without a matte red lip or a bold cat eye, it’s kind of a big deal.

In fact, the LA Times reported that the no-makeup rule was decided by Cooper during an initial screen test. Lady Gaga entered with a full face of makeup and Cooper approached her with a makeup wipe and removed it all.

The internet had a lot of feels about this, not only because Lady Gaga is a queen and should be able to do what she wants, but because the act of him removing her makeup seemed a bit…creepy. Why couldn’t he have handed her the makeup wipe and let her do it herself? (To be fair to Cooper, he did ask for the makeup artist’s permission.)

But Gaga didn’t seem to mind. In the same LA Times article, she said, “It put me right in the place I needed to be, because when my character talks about how ugly she feels — that was real. I’m so insecure. I like to preach, but I don’t always practice what I preach.”

Perhaps Cooper’s no-makeup rule stuck with the star because when her cover story for The New York Times came out, apart from some lip gloss, she didn’t appear to be wearing any. Knowing the chameleon that Gaga is, however, I wouldn’t get too used to this bare-faced look because it’s only a matter of time until she switches it up once again.
